As part of my Journalism degree, I have specialised in Radio news and features but have also written news for print and had work experience in the production office of New Life Publishing where i have written for a wide range of articles for their different publications from news to real life stories and obituaries. As part of specialising in Magazine production i jointly produced a Christian Music magazine with wide ranging features on New and local Christian music and life style articles. In 2007 as part of my magazine portfolio at University i produced a Christian Music Magazine called Ignite, with Nicola Howe. Some of the best work in this magazine can be viewed below (All work written by Gareth Duffield and Designed by Nicola Howe, Dec2007)
In January 2008 i was honoured to joined the team of music reviewers at Cross Rhythms- probably the worlds biggest and best Christian Music database and continue to review and write features for them, see some of my work here.
Radio Production
After my niche in Christian media, radio is my next biggest passion. Whilst I was at University I recorded faith programs for the internet based community radio station, Erewash Sound, and when i started the project in February 2007 i was also producing similar programs for Siren Online, which has now progressed into an FM community station.
Aside from presentation, i have found my strengths in Radio production. I’m now an Intern for Christian Journalist and Broadcaster, Mike Rimmer, who presents evening shows on Cross Rhythms radio in Stoke on Trent. As you can read in more detail on my blogs, a lot of the work I do for him is radio production. Whilst I was studying Journalism at the University of Lincoln I was Head of News at Siren FM where i have been building contacts between the community and the radio station, training up Journalists and organising rota’s for the production of our week day 5.45 bulletins. On a casual basis, i also worked for BBC Radio Lincolnshire answering the phones for the Breakfast show, and have been seen doing the same thing at BBC WM and Cross Rhythms too!
